Lesson 9: Major Scale 1-2-3

This lesson teaches the major scale (the first 3 degrees).

Before taking this lesson, you should know what a scale is, from Lesson 8: Scales.

The rule for the first three degrees of a major scale is simple: they're each a whole-step apart:

1 2 3

Here are some examples of the 1-2-3 degrees of some major scales:


G♭ major scale 1-2-3: G♭-A♭-B♭


"A" major scale 1-2-3: A-B-C♯


B♭ major scale 1-2-3: B♭-C-D
