Obtaining DirectX

You need to have Microsoft DirectX, version 8 or higher, installed on your computer in order to run ChordSong. To see if it's already installed, do the following:

In Windows Explorer, in the folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32, find and run the program file "dxdiag.exe". This opens the "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" window.
The first tab in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window is the "System" tab. This tab lists several items of information about your system. One of these items is your "DirectX Version". See if this is 8 or greater.

If you don't already have DirectX 8 or higher, you can download it for free from Microsoft. There are two ways to do this:

Use the Microsoft Downloads site:
1. Go to www.microsoft.com/downloads.
2. Use the search options to find the latest "DirectX End-User Runtime". To help find this, you can choose "DirectX" in the Product/Technology dropdown listbox.
Or, you can use Windows Update (find Windows Update in your Windows Start Menu). The advantage of Windows Update over the Microsoft Downloads site is that Windows Update automatically finds new components (like the .NET Framework) that you don't already have, so you don't have to search for what you need.
